Gardai have issued a warning to walkers after a tourist got lost climbing Muckish yesterday afternoon.

Gardai received a 999 call from a tourist who was lost on the mountain before 1pm.

The Donegal Mountain Rescue team were alerted but contact was made with the lost walker and they were safely taken off the mountain.

The Donegal Mountain Rescue team were then stood down.

Gardai say the incident is a timely reminder for walkers and climbers to ensure they are fit enough for the challenge ahead.

They are also reminding people to make sure to tell others where and when they are going and how long they are expected to be away.

“If the emergency services do need to get to you then they will get to you asap,” said a Garda spokesman.
