Listen: Ryan McConnell reflects on a ‘massive’ win for Letterkenny Rovers in Cockhill

Ryan McConnell hailed a ‘massive’ win for Letterkenny Rovers as they overcame Cockhill Celtic to make it five wins from five in the Four Lanterns USL.

Jonny Bonner’s penalty was all that separated the sides as Rovers scored a second win over Cockhill in recent weeks following a big 5-0 win in the FAI Intermediate Cup.

“It’s massive for us,” the former Manchester United youth said.

“We beat them in the Intermediate. It was nothing unless we took points in the League.

“We wanted to sit in and absorb the pressure for 10 or 15 minutes. We did well today and we’re happy with the three points.”

Cockhill enjoyed plenty of possession without really threatening Rory Kelly, though they did get the ball in the net in the second half, but Laurence Toland saw an effort ruled out for offside.

McConnell added: “We were under pressure, but Rory didn’t have a lot to do. We’re working well as a unit.”
