‘Oink, oink’ noise to Gardai costs man €250 – and that’s no porkie

November 13, 2018

A Buncrana man who made pig noises and used abusive language towards gardaí has been fined for the offence.

Jason Doherty of 25 Castle Park was before a recent sitting of Buncrana District Court charged with threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.

Inspector Goretti Sheridan told the court that on Monday, October 30, 2017 while on mobile patrol on Buncrana’s Main Street at 3.25am, gardaí were approached by a male who said ‘oink, oink’ as he passed them.

When gardaí demanded his name and address, the male began using aggressive language towards them. Inspector Sheridan said Doherty, aged 31, had 56 previous convictions, including convictions for public order offences.

Solicitor, Mr Ciaran Mac Lochlainn told Judge Paul Kelly that his client was well known to the court, but had not come to the gardaí’s attention in two years.

The solicitor said his client was now in full-time employment scaffolding and had moderated his drinking and attended White Oaks Rehabilitation Centre.

Judge Kelly fined the defendant €250 for the offence.
