Three restaurants and bistros in Co. Donegal have emerged as winners of the third annual Food Awards Ireland 2018.

Over 300 food industry leaders gathered for the awards in Dublin last night.

Chandpur Indian Restaurant in Donegal Town have done it again – winning Ireland’s Best Indian Establishment.

The restaurant is proudly holding onto this all-Ireland title after tasting success in the 2017 awards – and they have a Restaurant of the Year (Borders) prize to add to their collection from last night too.

Chandpur has been a hot favourite of locals and a constant award-winning restaurant since it opened in the main street car park Donegal Town in 2012. Owned by Rana and Susan Miah, the Indian and Bangladeshi venue has a place on the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame for earning five Five Star Certificates of Excellence.

Several of the Food Awards 2018 were split into local regions to ensure the diverse ranges of businesses from across Ireland are recognised for their exceptional services.

In Letterkenny, the popular Honeypot Coffee House on the High Road won Café/Bistro of the Year (Borders). The cafe was recently crowned Ireland’s Friendliest Business at the JCI Awards.

McGettigan’s Pub won Gastro Pub of the Year (Borders). This sports bar in the Clanree Hotel is a hotspot for food, cocktails and live music.

Head Chef Antoine Minelli of Blas in Donegal Town was also highly commended for the award of Chef of the Year 2018.

The Food Awards Ireland 2018 ceremony was hosted by broadcaster and author Andrea Hayes, who presented 26 amazing awards to the deserving winners. She welcomed on stage talented individuals and businesses, acknowledged for constantly delivering fresh cooked dishes, high-quality food products, leaving their customers with the best of impressions.

A spokesperson for the Food Awards Ireland 2018 said: “We are very honoured to have welcomed and rewarded such great representatives that operate in the Irish food industry. We would like to thank the public for making the Food Awards Ireland one of the most respected awards ceremonies in the food sector.

“The awards acknowledged those who work within establishments where excellence is a standard and provide their customers with dishes that are second to no one. Working for the food industry can be challenging and these awards recognised specialists who have dedicated their career in providing Ireland with great gastronomic delights that enhance the reputation of the country.

“We would like to congratulate all the finalists and winners for their achievements.”
