A second ambulance to service the needs of the people of Inishowen has moved a step closer.

The second ambulance is to be part of the service plan for 2019 for the National Ambulance Service.

Details of the move were revealed at a special meeting of the National Ambulance Service and public representatives from Inishowen which was held today.

The National Ambulance Service is hopeful that the HSE get behind the proposal.

It is not known where the second ambulance will be based with the sole ambulance currently based in Carndonagh.

There have been numerous reports of people waiting more than an hour for ambulances in emergency situations because of the lack of cover in the peninsula.
