Listen: John Cunningham on importance of Killybegs’ Division 3 win

Killybegs celebrated winning the 2018 Division 3 for the second time yesterday – and John Cunningham was delighted to see his men deliver.

Killybegs had lodged an appeal after a three-way play-off was ordered to decide the winner, after the Fisherman had already toasted winning the Division.

But wins in the last two weekends have given Killybegs a chance to savour the moment again with yesterday’s 0-14 to 0-12 win over Buncrana in Convoy securing a passage back to Division 2 as well as the silverware.

“There’s great satisfaction,” Cunningham said.

“The game went to the wire and we showed a lot of composure to get the crucial scores.

“It was a challenge. All along we were preparing for the games. We told the lads it was a good opportunity to show themselves in a head-to-head with everything at stake.

“It’s hugely important for us to get into Division 2 and for our lads to get to play against better opposition.”
