Listen: St Eunan’s U21 hero Hannigan reflects on final hat-trick

Niall Hannigan scored one of the quickest hat-tricks in Donegal football yesterday – taking less than eight minutes to bag a treble as St Eunan’s won the U21 final.

There were just 65 seconds played when Hannigan netted his first goal against Glenfin and the clock just seven-and-a-half minutes gone when he bagged the third.

“I was shocked myself,” Hannigan said after a 5-11 to 1-8 win.

“That doesn’t happen too often. There was great work by Rory Carr and Oisin Purdy so it was just a matter of putting them into the net.  I’m delighted with how it went.”

Hannigan revealed how practice has made for perfect in the manner of the goals.

He said:  “It’s something we’ve been doing over the years was playing it to a man in a better position and making an easy finish.

“We do it all the time in training and it was great to show it on a big stage like a final.”
