It has been announced that Ballyraine National School in Letterkenny is to get a new classroom and two new Special Education Teacher (SET) rooms.
The Letterkenny school was sanctioned one 80m2 classroom which will have two ensuite toilets and two 15m2 SET classrooms.
The works will also include the removal of two prefab classrooms on the school grounds.
Following the announcement, Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh: “The confirmation of new classrooms for the staff, pupils and parents of Ballyraine is a massive boost.
“It will make a huge difference with some classes being moved permanently out of prefabs and two specially designed and built rooms for Special Education – it’s about improving the quality of education for youngsters.”
Councillor Kavanagh added: “I understand the Department has written to the school principal and that Minister Joe McHugh has also been on touch personally to wish the principal David Oliver, vice principal is Mrs. A. Gallen. the best with the new development.”
The councillor also praised the Department of Education and Skills for granting further work for two other Donegal schools.
“Every week the Department is confirming some additional works and emergency works for schools around the country,” Councillor Kavanagh said.
“We have roof repair works confirmed for Loreto College in Letterkenny. There is also a plan for work on Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town. These projects are massive for the local community and the pupils and staff at the school.”
