A family social centre set up by five Donegal mums has been shortlisted for a Charity Impact Award.
Spraoi agus Sport in Carndonagh has welcomed countless children and adults to their community over the past eight years.
Set up initially as a Parent and Toddler Group to address the lack of activities for young families, Spraoi agus Spórt has evolved into a vibrant family hub which improves the quality of life for families in the area.
Now, Spraoi agus Sport are calling for votes from the community to achieve a dream of winning a national award.
Spraoi agus Sport is the only Donegal social enterprise in their category of the Charity Impact Awards this year.
Spraoi agus Sport plays a key role in the Carndonagh community. It was established in 2010, when friends Helen Nolan, Ailbhe Hickey, Louise Grant, Helen Doherty and Kathleen Gallagher were desperately in need of a social outlet as young mothers, as were many of their friends.
Eight years later, they have expanded into five units around Carndonagh and have 1,850 families on our database. Their team consists of 5 full-time staff, 70 freelance facilitators and 10 Special Needs Assistants.
Spraoi agus Spórt now offers fully-inclusive activities, classes and holiday camps for the whole community. Five hundred people, young and old, attend the hub every week.
“Everyone involved in Spraoi agus Spórt is passionate about what we do and love doing it – that is what makes us special and ensures that we can deal with our ongoing challenge of ensuring we meet the demand for services from within our community,” said the founders.
It is the founders’ dream to win the Charity Impact Award and have their community work recognised on an international stage. If you’d like to vote for Spraoi agus Spórt just click here: www.charityimpactawards.ie/awards/spraoi-agus-sport-family-centre-ltd
