Michael Murphy pointed to the character of his LyIT side as they overcame Dundalk in last night’s Division 2 final.

At windy Garvaghey, John Campbell’s brace of goals – the second of them in the dying moments – helped the Port Road side to a 3-14 to 2-15 win.

The game was in the melting pot right to the finish.

“It was thrilling enough and it was fairly full on,” Murphy said.

“There is great aul character in the side in fairness.

“In a lot of the League games so far we’ve been down on them, but they keep coming back and battling away. It’s nice to win for them.

“Our boys showed great attitude and that’s all you can ask for. They keep plugging on. They’re a delight to work with. They dug in and wanted to win.”
