Elliot Ruddy, an Engineering Student at Coláiste Cholmcille in Ballyshannon has been selected to represent the region in the National Finals of the Young Engineer Competition.

The finals are being held in Mullingar this weekend.

Elliot was awarded Student of the Year in Coláiste Cholmcille earlier in the year having achieved a H1 Grade in Engineering in the Leaving Certificate at Higher Level.

Teacher John McLone applauded Elliot’s exceptional ability to be a problem solver, a critical evaluator of his work and a student who always strived to improve his work.

John said that in addition his ability to work with others and engage fellow classmates in a discussion about project design was noted.

Elliot’s Engineering project embodied not only exceptional manual skills but also utilised modern Bluetooth control and App development using specialist software.

John finished his praise of his student by saying “this guy will be one to watch in the future.”
