Eyebrows were raised today when an FAI official was seen collecting Jim McGuinness at Dublin Airport – but there was a simple explanation!

With Mick McCarthy set to be announced as the new Republic of Ireland senior team manager tomorrow at a press conference in Dublin, the sight of an FAI official with a card bearing McGuinness’ name had the rumour mill in action.

Just got sent these pictures of Jim McGuinness apparently being collected at the airport by the FAI. Haven't been able to confirm if they're legitimate.

Intriguing development if confirmed though. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/t40KsAmTnb

McGuinness has previously spoken of a desire to get a job as a soccer manager and there were suggestions that the Glenties man might have been lined up for a place on McCarthy’s backroom staff.

The former Donegal manager was a speaker at the 2018 FAI Coaching Conference, which was held at IT Carlow.

Over 180 coaches were in attendance and McGuinness was among the speakers to deliver a presentation.
