Businesses in Dungloe are being invited to attend a breakfast meeting on Tuesday next to learn more about saving money on waste, energy and water costs while at the same time improving the business’s environmental impact through the Eco Merit Certification Programme.

The Eco Merit programme is being supported by Donegal County Council and is designed to help businesses and public sector organisations to improve their environmental performance and achieve financial savings.

Suzanne Tinney is Waste Awareness Officer with Donegal County Council.

She said “Evidence shows that the average cost savings to businesses participating in this programme is in the region of €7,900 for the first year of certification alone and an annual improvement of 9% on their energy carbon footprints and this is why we are keen to explore the possibility of working with businesses in the Dungloe area to roll out this programme.”

The EcoMerit programme is supported by local authorities throughout the country who subsidise the delivery of the programme.

Businesses who participate in the programme can avail of the support of an environmental advisor to identify improvements and savings in waste, water and energy bills, guidance to implement a simple environmental management system, a certificate to independently verify its environmental credentials, annual surveillance visits to evaluate performance and identify further savings and improvements and assistance in applying for environmental improvement grants.

A breakfast business meeting will take place in the Waterfront Hotel, Dungloe next Tuesday 4th December from 7.30am to 9am. This is a free event but booking is essential and to book a place email suzannebogan@donegalcoco.ie or call 074 9153900.

This event is supported by Dungloe Tidy Towns.
