Storm Diana batters Donegal with downpours and high winds

A Status Yellow wind warning is in place for Donegal this Tuesday as Storm Diana hits Ireland.

High winds and gales of up to 110km/hr are forecast this morning, with winds strongest at the coast.

The weather alert is valid from 10am to 2pm this Tuesday.

There is a risk of flooding in the north west under blustery conditions and heavy rain.

AA Roadwatch is warning drivers to take care: “Slow down on wet roads and leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one in front. Watch out too for wind-blown debris and take extra care around pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.”

Met Eireann reports: “Very blustery this morning with heavy spells of rain, gales and severe gusts. Some downpours may give flooding locally, but brighter of weather with squally showers will follow gradually from the southwest.”

Tonight will be overcast and windy again with further outbreaks of rain and strong winds.

Wednesday will be a mostly cloudy and very windy day once again, according to forecasters. Heavy rain is set to continue in the north west region.

Unsettled and wet weather is in store for the rest of the week, says Met Eireann, with conditions turning colder by the weekend.

Very wet and very blustery in most places this morning, with heavy downpours of rain, gales and severe gusts. Some spot flooding locally also. But brighter less windy weather with showers, already in the southwest will extend up across the country gradually. Top temps 8 to 12C. pic.twitter.com/YbU20UhNZI
