Listen: Freedom to play is behind Gaoth Dobhair’s surge, says Mulligan

Cian Mulligan says the freedom to express, given to Gaoth Dobhair’s players by the management, has been a key part of their run to the Ulster final.

Known goal-getter Mulligan has been in fine form for the Donegal champions in 2018.

Gaoth Dobhair’s surge to Donegal glory and to within an hour of an Ulster title, he says, is down to being allowed to play how they like.

“We’re enjoying it a lot more and the freedom helps,” Mulligan said.

“Usually managers can bog you down with tactics, but Mervyn and the management let us play our own brand and we enjoy it. That’s why we’ve clicked.”

The 15-times Donegal champions are standing on the cusp of history this weekend and Mulligan and co are aware of what’s at stake.

He said: “We knew with the history the club had that some day the chance would come. Hopefully now we take the chance because it might never come again.”
