The elderly woman killed in a single vehicle crash in Gaoth Dobhair at the weekend has been named.

She was former journalist Jane Crane, who was in her 70s.

Ms Crane, who was originally from Northern Ireland, was well-known in local circles and wrote a column for a time for the Tirconail Tribune.

Although living in Dunlewey at the time of her death, she had also spent time living in Churchill and other parts of Donegal.

Ms Crane died when her car left the N56 between Crolly and Dunlewey around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Editor of the Tirconail Tribune, John McAteer, said he remembers Ms Crane with fondness and as a woman of high intellect.

“She was a very intelligent woman whom not many people knew an awful lot about. She wrote occasionally for us and her work was always of a very high standard.

“I was very saddened to hear of her passing,” said Mr McAteer.
