Ballybofey school secures funding for heating upgrade

Staff and students at Dooish National School in Ballybofey are set to benefit from energy improvement works to improve heating in the building.

The funding allocation under the Department of Education Emergency Works Scheme will provide for a new boiler this winter.

Fine Gael Councillor Martin Harley says this is brilliant news for everyone involved with Dooish NS.

Cllr Harley said: “The new boiler will do wonders for the general day to day running of the school.  It’ll improve the environment for youngsters to learn and teachers to teach and we’d hope it’ll help to reduce the running costs and energy bills.

“I spoke to principal Packie Boner and the school aren’t going to wait to get this work done with the contractor booked for the weekend.

“I understand that officials in the Building Unit of the Department of Education approved funding for the project.”

The funding for the project has been approved by the Department of Education under the Emergency Works programme.

Councillor Harley said:  “I’d like to acknowledge Minister for Education and Skills, our TD for Donegal, Joe McHugh and also thank the officials in the Department for their focus on applications for funding for Additional and Emergency Works.

“Almost every week there more than a dozen schools in counties around the country getting good news like this that will improve school life.

“We have roof repair works confirmed for Loreto College in Letterkenny, work on Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town, disabled access in Robertson National School in Stranorlar and classrooms in Ballyraine NS.”
