Letterkenny Blaze U18 girls set to face Brunell BC in National Cup quarter final

This Saturday the U18 girls from Letterkenny Blaze will make the long journey to Cork to play against the hotly tipped Brunell BC in the quarter-final of the Hula Hoops Basketball Ireland National Cup.

The girls advanced out of the qualifying tournament held at the beginning of October in Gormanston Park.

The game is scheduled for a 5.15pm tip in the infamous Parochial Hall in Cork City.

Parochial Hall has possibly deemed the true home of basketball in Ireland. For those outside basketball circles, this is just an old bingo hall, but it has in fact seen countless battles and numerous notable players, especially from bygone eras, play here.

The Americans, the likes of Kelvin Troy (who played against the great Larry Bird), Ed Randolf (father of ROI goalkeeper Darren) and Mario Elio (who returned to the US to play NBA) and many others have all plied their craft on the floors of the Parochial Hall.

As the Blaze girls get set to make a small bit of history of their own, they will be without the services of Shannon Cunningham, who is away on International duty.
