Donegal Gardai issue warning about surge in scam callers

Gardai in Donegal have issued another warning for people to be aware of scam calls.

Local Gardai have posted a warning on their Facebook Page saying they have noticed an increase in such activity.

And they say that the scams are getting more complex as they try to con people into giving away their private information such as bank details.

A spokesman said “There appears to be an increase in this type of activity recently and they are now using new computer programs/software to make it appear like they are calling from legitimate Irish telephone numbers.

“You should never provide any details to any caller especially not your bank or financial details. If you are in doubt then simply hang up, if a bank or financial institution wishes to contact you and cannot reach you by phone then they will write to you.

“Please pass on this warning to those who may not be on social media especially any elderly people you may know.”
