The North West Breast Cancer Ball 2018 has raised a grand total of €17,000 for cancer research and patient care – it was revealed today.

The glamorous event was held in the Silver Tassie Hotel on 30th November, bringing hundreds of people together for the cause.

Special guests included broadcaster Andrea Gilligan from Newstalk and Majella O Donnell.

An exciting auction contributed greatly to the fund, with a holiday to Daniel and Majella O’Donnell’s villa in Tenerife going for €3,000.

The committee said they have been ‘blown away’ by the generosity of supporters this year.

The monies raised at the ball support the continued employment of a fulltime research assistant at Breast Centre North West and research fellows are also employed during the summer months.

Research carried out at Breast Centre North West has been presented at national and international meetings.

Funds are also used to support patient comfort at the clinic as well as aspects of community care including an outreach programme to those recovering from breast cancer.

The organising committee of the North West Breast Cancer Ball 2018 has sincerely thanked everyone who attended, sponsored or in any way supported this important community event.

The Breast Cancer Ball is an increasingly popular night on the North West social calendar was attended by a large crowd, with glamour and glitter being order of the day…or night!

The committee extended a particular thanks to Andrea Gilligan from Newstalk and were delighted to welcome Majella O Donnell, a great friend of the Breast Ball whose generous donation created a great buzz.

A spokesperson said: “The committee are also keen to acknowledge the support of a great number of sponsors, local and national, whose generosity year after year never ceases to amaze.

“Also worthy of special mention are host Noel Cunningham and Gabrielle McMonagle, as well as a number of public representatives, some local GP practices and representatives from local media.

“Those who danced into the wee hours will know what a contribution the band made to the occasion, so a big ‘thank you’ to the Bentley Boys. Thanks also to Ciaran and Rose Blaney and staff at the Silver Tassie Hotel for preparing a stunning venue and excellent meal.”
