PFA Auction to support Donegal man’s cancer battle and First Responders

The Ardara Poor Farmers Association is back again for their Christmas charity extravaganza.

Anything goes at this fun event, which will be held in Teague’s Bar Ardara on 29th December 2018 @ 9pm.

This year’s auction will support two funds which are very close to the community.

The Owen McConnell Fund was established last month to raise money for a popular local man who is battling cancer.

Owen McConnell is a father of four living in New York who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Owen’s family and friends at home and abroad have rallied around him and his wife Joanne, who is also from Donegal.

The Owen McConnell Fund has so far raised almost $65,000 for medical expenses, as hundreds of supporters back his #McConnellStrong fight: www.gofundme.com/a-little-something-extra-for-owen

Also benefiting from the auction is the Ardara Cardiac First Responders.

This vitally important group is a collection of trained volunteers who help save lives in the community. The service works with the National Ambulance Service to respond directly to 999 emergency calls for people with various critical emergencies, such as chest pains, suspected heart attacks or strokes and choking incidents.

Supporting this team means that they can fund training, uniforms and equipment to carry out their lifesaving work.

Large crowds are expected to turn out in support of both charity causes on 29th December.

The P.F.A. auction at Teague’s Bar will be a great night’s craic as usual. The stage is transformed into a bidding table for the auctioneer taking charge of proceedings over the usual dance floor which also morphs, on the night, into ‘the mart ring’ with livestock auctioned in bar… but seeing is believing so be sure to make your way to Teague’s Bar on the 29th Dec. 2018.

To date the P.F.A has raised an astonishing €286,749.00 for charities.

In the past, lots have included sheep, heifers, bags of turf, chickens, gates, bags of nuts and bales of silage to name but a few.

Organisers said: “We’ve lots flying in as we speak. And we’re expecting a wide and varied range of items to be in place by the time the night comes around. If you’ve never been to the event, then you should make the effort this year as it’s truly a unique night that will live long in your memory – it’s crazy – but it’s all for such a great cause!”

The Poor Farmers Association (P.F.A.) would like to thank everyone involved in the last 13 Auction’s which raised a total of €286,749.00.

Anyone looking to donate items or place a reserve bid is asked to contact anyone of the organising committee, or
