A Donegal woman has earned an Education award from the Road Safety Authority for her contributions to the Donegal Road Safe Show.
Joan Doherty from Carndonagh has been active in the promotion of road safety locally for 12 years following the tragic death of her daughter.
Joan lost her daughter Kellie in a tragic road traffic collision in 2005. She has relived that loss every year at the Donegal Safe Road Show by telling over 30,000 students how the loss of her daughter had changed their lives forever. She has assisted with the organisation of the show every year and gives her time freely to educate students on road safety.
Joan was awarded the Road Safety Authority Leading Lights ‘Education – Secondary’ award for 2018.
The award was presented to Louise McGeever on behalf of Joan by the RSA chairperson Liz O’Donnell at the RSA’s 11th annual ‘Leading Lights in Road Safety’ Awards in Croke Park on Wednesday.
Another award winner from Donegal was Ronan Bradley who won the ‘Approved Driving Instructor – Car Award. Ronan commenced work as an ADI training instructor in early 2015. Ronan always strives to meet the needs of his students and always works hard to promote Road Safety messages for those going through the learning to drive process.
