Buncrana Golf Club: Record breaker Garbhan Fullerton defies the odds

written by Stephen Maguire December 17, 2018

There was less action at the Buncrana Golf last week due to the weather, with only a few matches getting underway in the Winter League, but that didn’t Garbhan Fullerton from defying the odds.

67 Million to one record breaker – Garbhan Fullerton

Congratulations to Garbhan Fullerton who had the remarkable achievement of recording two holes in one-over 18 holes. While for most golfers to get a hole in one in their golfing career might never happen the odds an insurance company will give are 12,500/1 for a hole in 1. But the US National Hole-In-One Registry quotes odds of 67 million to one to get two holes in 1 in the same round over 18 holes of golf. This was a remarkable achievement by 20 handicapper Garbhan and puts him on a very short list worldwide of golfers who have ever managed to get 2 holes in 1 over 18 hole of golf.

Owen Mc Daid (Roe) Mini – Bus & Taxi Hire Winter League

Due to the inclement weather conditions on Saturday, only two matches in the qualifiers section of the quarterfinals took place last weekend. With Cormac Doherty & Leo Sheehy beating Fiáchra O’ Flaherty & Martin Doherty two up and Nathaniel Mc Grory & Francis Mc Grory beat Kevin Murphy & John Bonner 4 & 3. T

his leave the matches between Jim Caldwell & Ciaran Mc Laughlin v John Doherty & Mickey Healy and Liam O’ Donnell & Barry Dillon v Oliver Doherty & Mickey Mc Cann to be played on or before this weekend Saturday, December 22 or Sunday, December  23 without exception.

In the non-qualifiers Benny Murphy & Sean Murphy beat Christopher Mc Callion & Seamus Coyle, Derek Smith & Martin Barber beat Ronald Longwill & Owen Doherty and Hugh Doherty & Tony Mc Sherry beat Bernard Doherty & Condy Quinn.

Nine Hole Stableford Sweep

The winner of last weekends 9 hole Stableford sweep was Sean T. Murphy (15) with 22 pts. There will be an 18 hole Stableford competition this weekend Saturday, December 22 & Sunday, December 23.
