The talented students of Scoil Roisín in Dungloe put on a showstopping Christmas spectacular to raise €2,650 to benefit their school.

Funds raised at the successful show will go towards a new sensory playground.

On Friday 14th December, every one of the 57 pupils at Scoil Roisín earned themselves a standing ovation and heartfelt cheer for their adaptation of the 2017 musical film “The Greatest Showman’ at Ionad an Mhachaire in Maghery.

Scoil Roisín’s “Greatest Show” delivered exactly what it says on the tin.

Barnum (Hugh Boyle) and Carlyle (Evan Doherty) search the locality for unique talent. They invite the Scoil Roisín pupils to audition. With a stellar cast on board they invest their fortune.

In a dramatic turn of events their show venue and all of their resources were annihilated by a burning blaze. Barnum and Carlyle were destitute.

Scoil Roisín pupils came to the rescue though. They soon conjured up their very own circus tent reflecting on their ‘area of the circle’ lesson from scene one.

In a flash, the dazzling display that was their “Greatest Show” was in full swing.

The atmosphere truly did “Come Alive” for the glitzy spectacle.

There were puppets, colourful clowns, and little lions. Even the cast of Annie and an Elvis Quintet made an appearance.

Laurel and Hardy and the Twelve Days of Christmas crew provided a comic spark, not to mention Emma McGowan and Adam McCole’s version of Harry Belafonte’s ‘Hole in the Bucket’.

The choreography was eye catching with Strictly stars dropping by for a quickstep including Daniel O’Donnell and Michael D Higgins, to name but a few.

The chorus songs were high octane and toe tapping. Michael Houston‘s rendition of ‘Million Dreams’ was simply charming. Sarah Jane Hartnett bedazzled the audience with her stunning interpretation of “Never Enough”.

Cora O’Donnell multitasked on the night as ‘make-up artist to the stars’, dancing partner to Daniel O’Donnell and the show compere.

All in all, it was a showcase of multiple talents, unique talents, real talents.

The school community has said thank you to all those that supported on the night and for the generous contributions.
