DD Hairdressing: Patrick Gildea’s Christmas Eve Hair

Christmas Eve is one of the most magical nights of the year from wrapping presents, dinner preparation, leaving the treats out for Santy and Rudolph to visiting our loved ones.

It is the day that all the preparation is done for the main event- Christmas Day. With so much happening on Christmas Eve it is not always possible to get to the salon for the perfect blow-dry to get you through Christmas day, but thankfully we can also prepare our hair as well as our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve with some very easy steps.

Whether you go for full-on glamour or a low key look Patrick says that having beautiful hair on Christmas day doesn’t mean you have to use your Christmas wish.

Laid Back Curls

After you shower on Christmas Eve comb your hair and put in two braids when your hair is still wet, spray some light holding spray and air dry naturally. When you get up on Christmas morning take the braids out and separate with your fingers to give a beautiful, laid-back curly look.

Va Va Voom Volume

Waking up with beautiful volumized Bridget Bardot style hair on Christmas morning without a fuss is very possible.

Simply sleep in a trendy topknot. On Christmas eve apply a frizz-taming crème to damp hair, flip your head upside down and gather it in a high top knot at the top of your head.

Patrick says it is important to keep it looser than usual so that you can sleep comfortably. When you wake up, let your hair down and refresh with some hairspray and a soft bristle brush and va va voom!

Smooth and Straight

Waking up with smooth straight hair on Christmas morning requires a bit of preparation on Christmas eve. Blow-dry and straighten your hair as normal with a heat protect spray.

Then wrap your hair in one direction starting behind your ear around the head to create a flat, smooth surface and secure in place with large hair grips. To keep your hair in place all night Patrick says it is a good idea to tie a silk scarf around your head.

Most importantly enjoy Christmas Eve with your family and friends- undoubtedly the most magical night of the year.
