There have been 693 arrests on suspicion of intoxicated driving since 30th November. More than 476 vehicles were detected driving in excess of the speed limit up to the 27th of December.
Gardaí are reminding motorists to drive responsibly and that they are continuing to target intoxicated drivers 24/7.
“To avoid ruining your or anyone else’s Christmas, never ever drink or take drugs and drive,” said a Garda spokesperson.
A further warning added: “Speeding is a major factor in fatal road traffic collisions.
“Please slow down to save lives.”
