Top food critics present chef Brian McDermott with top award

Only hours into 2019 and chef Brian Mc Dermott has picked up another career award as the respected food writers John & Sally Mc Kenna have presented him with Irish Communicator Award.

The Moville man recently opened the stunning Foyle Hotel on the shores of Lough Foyle.

Now the backing of two of Ireland’s top food writers has reaffirmed Brian’s status as one of the country’s top creative chefs.

Brian McDermott admits that he is driven by the ‘desire to create food which would give others the same sense of belonging I felt at my mother’s kitchen table.’

That’s a powerful and all-encompassing ambition, and it’s an ambition that creates McDermott’s modesty, and his utility as a teacher, demonstrator, broadcaster, commentator, author, and cook.

With a new book and a new hotel both happening in 2018, Mr McDermott has had something of an annus mirabilis.

He’s a hard working guy, who never goes off message, and that message is a simple one: good food makes us truly human.

Brian said he is delighted to be honoured by John & Sally with this award is as good as it gets given that Mc Kennas are the best food writers in Ireland.

He said “I continue to do what I do and love communicating genuine passion across many platforms but to be recognised nationally for it is beyond belief. I simply love what I do and this is the most exciting period of my career.”
