Updated: Garda sources confirm woman dead following Killygordan incident

Garda sources have confirmed that a woman in her 20s has died following the ‘critical incident’ in Killygordan this morning.

The woman, who is from Co Donegal, was living in the house with her partner and two children at Forest Park.

It is understood that gardai responded to a domestic disturbance in the early hours of the morning but the incident escalated.

Gardai were allegedly assaulted at the house at the situation became more serious.

Members of the Garda elite Emergency Response Unit were then drafted into the scene.

A man was then taken from the house.

Two children were taken from the scene of the incident.

However, it is understood that a woman in her 20s was fatally injured inside the house.

Gardai are at the scene and are awaiting the arrival of the forensic investigation unit.

The man who is currently in Garda custody is also from Co Donegal.

Commenting on the news that a young woman has tragically lost her life in Killygordon, Cllr Gary Doherty said “The whole community is in shock at the tragic news coming from Killygordon this morning.

“My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the young woman who has sadly lost her life so prematurely.”
