Listen: Conor Green says win over Glencar a ‘serious’ one for Strand

Conor Green hailed a ‘serious result’ as Strand Rovers moved four points clear at the top of the Glencar Inn Saturday League Division 1.

Strand, the defending champions, overcame fellow title hopefuls Glencar Celtic yesterday and the 2-0 win opens a little gap for the Maghery side.

“It’s a serious result,” Green, one of the goalscorers said.

“We put in a serious effort, a serious shift. It could have went either way, but thankfully the goals came for us.”

Green and Shan McGee netted as Strand swept to an impressive win, but with the margins very tight – just seven points separate the top six teams – the Strand hitman is expecting a ‘dogfight’ for the silverware.

He said; “It’s so tight. Every team is evenly matched. It’s a dogfight every game. We’ll try to keep it competitive.”
