Glenties Cllr Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig has called for immediate funding to be provided to repair Donegal’s water network.
The call was made after works commenced on a new water line in West Donegal from Seascan Beag, Doirí Beaga to Bun na Leaca.
Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said it was encouraging to see works begin and added: “As a local councillor, I am glad I was in a position to work towards this development along with others.”
However, the councillor says he believes there is a ‘huge crisis’ with Ireland’s water network. He criticised successive governments and the current governments for inaction on the issue.
Speaking last night, Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said: “Proper funding must be made available to start works, not in the long term but immediately, to deal with the huge loss of water due to the lack of proper investment in our water infrastructure by successive governments and to rid our pipelines of asbestos pipes.”
