Finn Valley men inspired to start Operation Transformation 2019

The Finn Valley Men’s Project are having a healthy start to the New Year by jumping into the fun of Operation Transformation 2019.

Members of the local community group are gearing up for a third year following Ireland’s big health and exercise movement on RTE.

Starting 14th January, the Finn Valley Men’s Project at Finn Valley Family Resource Centre will again be focusing on ‘One small change – maybe two!’ for the next eight weeks.

And they have a great local role model to follow this year, with Ballyshannon Paramedic Cathal Gallagher leading the way on the TV series.

The Finn Valley men are going to focus on two strands:

  • Weight loss – with an easy target aim of losing 7lbs in 8 weeks.  (Remember if this small change is adopted this could lead to a weight loss of over 3 stone in a year!)
  • Getting active – 30 minutes 5 days a week.  (It is well documented the health benefits of walking for just 30 minutes a day.  Information can be provided.)

A spokesperson for the project invites all local men to get involved: “Each man will decide which strand they wish to follow and will be given a weekly walking and/or diet plan. (Diet plan will be available on RTE’s website.  Help will be given to those who do not have internet access.)

“Walking is fitness based under guidance of walking expert Maria McGill. We will provide information session on nutrition and healthy eating to support with your new healthy lifestyle . Men of ages are welcome to join and make 2019 your Year.”

This is a great chance to make a small change or two that could have a long-term benefit on your health, a chance to get out and have a bit of craic.
