Donegal man’s unique 70th birthday raises over €3,300 for charity

Newtowncunningham’s Sydney Borland has proudly raised €3340 after throwing a birthday party with a difference!

To celebrate turning 70 last October, Sydney brought his community together for a Tractor and Vintage Car Run to give thanks to a very worthy charity.

Back in 2017, Sydney and his family found themselves in need of help from the ‘Croí’ Heart & Stroke Charity when he urgently needed triple bypass surgery in Galway University Hospital. The Borlands benefitted greatly from support, guidance and accommodation from Croí House during this time.

Once Syndey made a successful recovery, he wanted to give back to Croí, and was inspired to bring his milestone birthday and love of vintage motors together for a fundraiser.

The event gathered a great gift of €3,340 for Croí, which Sydney and his wife Joan presented to the charity this month.

“Thank you so so much to everyone who supported, donated and sponsored,” said Sydney’s daughter Kerry.
