Three new festivals have been added to Bundoran’s calendar for 2019, marking an exciting year ahead for tourist events.

The new events were announced yesterday at the launch of Bundoran tourism partnership’s new brochure.

To kickstart the year, the Atlantic Irish Fest takes place in January in association with the Milwaukee Irish Festival – A three day event focusing on the music and culture of the northwest.

Bundoran’s Big Week by the Beach will take place in August and will feature a series of events including a golf scramble, the Bundoran Surf Open, live music, quiz nights, historical events and more to be announced.

The Bia Bundoran Food Festival in September will promote all that is good about the culinary offering in the town and will be run collectively by the food outlets in the town.

The 2019 tourism launch, sponsored by AIB, presented those attending with an overview of the year ahead, a new 48 page brochure and a “new season” video which is available across the Discover Bundoran suite of social media channels.

Held in the new Roguey Suite of the Bundoran Community Centre, the event was attended by tourism providers, representatives of Failte Ireland, community and political representatives.

Bundoran Tourism Officer Shane Smyth said: “We are excited to be able to add three new events to the calendar which will hopefully return annually. We couldn’t run them however with the cooperation of our trade partners and we thank them for their continued support. Bundoran had a great season in 2018 and despite any uncertainties with Brexit we will continue to provide a fun family holiday destination and an entertaining programme throughout 2019.”

The town will also welcome the return of Darkness Into Light on May 11th which saw over 1000 participants in the augural Bundoran event in 2018, the Cara Bundoran Challenge, St Patrick’s Day Parade (and live Facebook broadcast), the Street Party, Vintage & Classic Car Show, Pumpkin Carving & Parade, numerous country music festivals and of course Sea Sessions Surf & Music Festival which this year will celebrate its 11th year.

The brochure once again puts a focus on Bundoran’s Fairy Bridges and Wishing Chair attraction, which was named in Ireland’s Top 10 Hidden Gems in 2018.

The new brochure will be available online at www.discoverbundoran.com and also in tourist offices in the region from early next week. It will also be available to pick up at Holiday World in Dublin’s RDS from 25th – 27th January.
