Jamie Brennan scored 1-4 for IT Sligo, but their Sigerson Cup opener ended in defeat to Garda College yesterday.

IT Sligo 1-10 Garda College 1-15

Garda played the last 25 minutes with 14 men following the dismissal of Paul Mannion for a second bookable offence.

Garda led 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time in Templemore, but Brennan’s goal, from a penalty, gave IT Sligo the edge.

Brennan had a fine Dr McKenna Cup with Donegal and is set to be a key player for Declan Bonner’s men in the Allianz League. He continued his own good form by registering 1-4 in this one.

However, Garda finished well and a flurry of scores, including a Ronan Carolan penalty, gave them the win.

Eamonn McGrath, Shane McGrath, Nathan Boyle, Andrew McClean and Kevin McBrearty joined Brennan in the starting XV, while Timmy Govorov came on as a substitute.
