St Patrick’s National School at Lurgybrack in Letterkenny is set to get an important upgrade this year following confirmation from the Department of Education.

Pupils and staff are set to benefit from the crucial works, which have been sanctioned under the Emergency Works programme for mechanical upgrades.

The announcement was made on Friday by Minister Joe McHugh and welcomed as ‘top class’ news by Fine Gael Donegal County Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh.

Minister Mc Hugh said: “The confirmation that St Patrick’s National School, Lurgybrack has got the go-ahead for important upgrade work is brilliant news, especially coming in the first couple of weeks of the new year.

“I am sure it will make a massive difference to principal Annraoi Cheevers, all the teachers and staff and pupils and everyone associated with the school community.

“Every week I am delighted to see the Department driving ahead with approvals for crucial works in schools right across the country, and not least in Co Donegal.

“Huge strides are being made week in, week out, on the standards of accommodation, buildings, roofs, heating systems.

“St Patrick’s can now be added to that growing list and I look forward to hearing about the improvements that this work makes.”

Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh added: “It is top class for the Minister to be able to share this kind of news with Annraoi Cheevers.  The support will make a huge difference to standards in the school.”
