Derry City Reserves kept their good recent form going with 2-1 victory over Fanad United at Traigh-a-Loch.

It was a game of few chances played in breezy conditions.

The first half chance of the game fell to Sean McBride after five minutes when his crisp half volley from the edge of the box flew wide of the Fanad post.

Five minutes later Keelin McElwaine went on a run down the right and his ball into he box was met by Edward O’Reilly whose shot was well saved by Daniel Houghton.

Just before the half hour mark, Kian McGarvey seen his good shot saved by Sean McCafferty in the Fanad nets.

Ten minutes into the second half, McCafferty made another decent save from a deflected free kick.

Derry were playing with the breeze and put plenty pressure on. This pressure was rewarded with 20 minutes to go when Kian McGarvey scored from close range after a mix up in the Fanad defence.

Fanad pushed for a equaliser without creating a clear cut chance. Derry then extended their lead with three minutes to go.

Substitute Caoimhin Porter cut in from the left and he hit a lovely curling effort into the corner from 25 yards.

Fanad though responded and piled on the pressure in the closing minutes. Ciaran Sharkey was denied by a superb block from Daniel Houghton and in the following scramble, the Derry defence held firm.

Fanad did pull a goal back in the final minute when Caolan Kelly thumped the ball home from the edge of the area.
