Letterkenny Institute of Technology soared to a comfortable win over Mary Immaculate in Claremorris to move into the second round of the Trench Cup.

LyIT led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time and powered clear in the second half.

The Michael Murphy-managed LyIT have been in good form this campaign and, having won the League title, began their Trench bid in fine fashion.

LyIT await the winners of the Trinity-Ulster University, Coleraine tie in the next round.
