Donegal residents are currently enjoying a quick break from the frost, sleet and snow before freezing and unsettled conditions set in again this weekend.
Temperatures in Donegal are a mild 9-10C today (Thursday) and will remain at highs of 10C tonight. Friday will be equally mild with average temperatures of 9-11C.
However, conditions will turn unsettled again this weekend, with wintry showers and freezing cold nights returning.
Saturday will begin mild but temperatures will dip in the afternoon to bring sleet showers to northern counties. Met Eireann forecasters are warning that a ‘windy and potentially very windy’ night is in store this Saturday with a likelihood of rain, hail and sleet.
Sunday will get off to a wintry and windy start. The north and northwest will be worst affected by wintry showers. Winds will ease before another cold night and ice warnings:
Forecasters said: “Winds are expected to moderate towards evening. On Sunday night winds will ease further and it will turn cold under clear skies with a widespread sharp frost and possibly ice on roads
“Current indications suggest next week will be cold and rather unsettled. There will be frosty nights and occasional wintry showers.”
