DONEGAL MANAGED TO get the win under their belt in Ennis today, as Declan Bonner’s team overcame Clare 0-16 to 0-13 in their Allianz League Division 2 opener.

Here’s the match report from Cusack Park

Elsewhere, Meath were the only other winners in the division. Andy McEntee’s side defeated Tipperary 0-15 to 1-8 in Navan. But it wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline might’ve suggested as on 57 minutes the teams were level at 0-10 to 1-7.

Meath finished much the stronger ahead of their visit to Ballybofey on Saturday to take on Donegal. Mickey Newman scored 0-7 in all, with all but one of those coming from a placed ball. Tipperary’s goalscorer was Conor Sweeney from the penalty spot as the Leinster side had led 0-7 to 1-2 at half-time.

In Enniskillen, former Donegal manager Rory Gallagher (pictured) saw his Fermanagh side pick up a draw at home to Cork in a low-scoring affair. Fermanagh only scored one free in the first half, through Conal Jones, and were 0-4 to 0-1 down at the break.

However, the home team were much improved after the interval and  following a second yellow card for Cork’s Ruairi Deane, Fermanagh found their groove to 0-7 to 0-5 up. Cork, though, pulled a goal out of the hat through Ian Maguire to lead by a point, only for Conal Jones to level it with a close-range free following a mark. The final score was Fermanagh 0-8 Cork 1-5.

Kieran McGeeney failed to get one over his former team as Armagh were held to a draw in Newbridge. Jimmy Hyland scored four points throughout for Kildare and his 74th minute free grabbed a share of the spoils at Armagh’s expense.

Stefan Campbell of Armagh scored the only goal of the game and the away team looked like they might win it when Rory Grugan’s free put them one up late on, only for Hyland to level – Kildare 0-14 Armagh 1-11.

Results: Clare 0-13 Donegal 0-16, Fermanagh 0-8 Cork 1-5, Kildare 0-14 Armagh 1-11, Meath 0-15 Tipperary 1-8.

Fixtures: Saturday 7pm Donegal v Meath; Sunday 1pm Cork v Kildare; Sunday 2pm Armagh v Clare, Tipperary v Fermanagh.
