Rosses AC – All-Ireland Indoor medal for Fodhla McFadden in Athlone

It was a good weekend for the Rosses AC as Gweedore’s Fodhla McFadden secured the club’s first Indoor All Ireland medal for 2019.

McFadden was competed at the National Junior/U23 Indoor Athletic Championships in Athlone on Sunday.

On the Saturday Helen McCready secured an Intermediate Ulster Silver medal NI and Ulster Intermediate and Masters Cross Country Championships in Belfast.

McFadden won a bronze All Ireland medal in the U23 women’s triple jump with a jump of 10.89m while McCready had to work hard over the 4k distance and it took a strong last 500m finish to secure the silver.

The Donegal Sports Star Awards took place last Friday night where a great night of celebration of sport in Donegal and there was good representation from Rosses AC with the Senior Ladies team being shortlisted in the team award after the brilliant year they had.

Rosses AC’s Shaun Stewart received a special recognition award for his endeavors in Adventure Racing in 2018.

Last weekend Rosses AC had a large number of our juvenile athletes who made the journey to the Aura in Letterkenny on Sunday for the County Sportshall trials.

Note that a second trial will be held on Sunday 10th Feb at the Aura at 11.30am.

Last weekend also Rosses AC had athletes take part in the Kilmacrennan 10k with Shaun Stewart first Rosses athlete home in 5th place with a time of 35.19 with Declan Gallagher at 40.29 closely followed by Manus McHugh and Patrick Trimble who raced Saturday in the Ballyshannon 5k. Gavin Ward, Noel Boyd and Lorraine Doherty enjoyed a good days outing with Lorrane getting a strong pb.

Registration is now due as all athletes need to get registered with Athletics Ireland which runs annually from January through December each year.

Membership covers Indoors, Track and Field, AAI approved road races, Sportshall and Cross Country. Membership fees are: Juvenile 20 euro, adult 30 euro and family 70 euro.
