January 30, 2019

A 33-year-old man has been charged in connection with the discovery of almost half a million euro worth of cannabis at a growhouse in Kerrykeel.

Cao Son Nguyen, a Vietnamese national, appeared at Carndonagh District Court today charged with the haul.

Garda Liam O Riordan told the court that the cannabis plants are estimated to be worth in excess of €400,000.

The haul was discovered when Gardai, supported by members of the Regional Armed Response Unit, raided a house at Ballymagowan, Kerrykeel on Monday afternoon last.

The house, which was rented, contained hundreds of cannabis plants as well as lighting and heating to grow the plants.

Cao Son Nguyen was taken to Milford Garda station where he was questioned about the find.

Today he was charged with the possession, sale and supply and cultivation of the plants.

No application for bail was made by the accused man’s solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until next Tuesday to Letterkenny District Court for Cao Son Nguyen to appear by videolink.

The court is expected to have directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions in the case at that stage.

Some of the drugs found on Monday in Kerrykeel.
