The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) is ramping up pressure on the Government by discussing further strike dates to those already scheduled for February.
Two days of 24-hour strike action are due to take place next Tuesday and Thursday, in a dispute over pay and staff shortages.
Pickets took place on Wednesday at major medical centres including Letterkenny University Hospital, Scally Primary Care Centre in Letterkenny as well as Dungloe, Buncrana and Ballyshannon.
Almost 40,000 nurses and midwives in Donegal and right across the country took part in the 24-hour strike.
Maura Hickey, INMO Industrial Relations Officer in the North-West, told Donegal Daily the action will continue for the “long-haul” if the Government don’t come to the table with “meaningful talks”.

The General Secretary INMO, Phil Ni Sheaghdha, said she expects that the union will announce further strike dates for nurses.
The HSE has warned that it expects all out-patient, in-patient and day surgery to be cancelled ahead of Tuesday’s strike.
It said it also expects Injury Units to be closed, and that routine community services and health centre nurse clinics to be cancelled.
Public day centres and day hospitals for older people or people with disabilities will also close.
