Declan Bonner praised Donegal’s ‘resolve’ after his side overcame Meath in Ballybofey tonight.

Caolan McGonagle’s goal turned the tide 11 minutes from time as Donegal made it two wins from two in Division 2.

Donegal were trailing by four points when McGonagle struck gold. With Meath held scoreless in the final quarter, Donegal prised the win through points from Ciaran Thompson, Eoin McHugh and Jamie Brennan.

“There is a real resolve there,” Donegal manager Bonner told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub after the 1-13 to 0-14 win.

“Four down going into the last quarter, it would have been easy for that young team to fold, but they stuck at it and we kicked on.

“It was fortuitous the way it came, but sometimes you make your own luck.”

Once more, it was an experimental Donegal, but Bonner insisted that the ever-improving batch are earning their spots.

He said: “Those lads are in possession of the jerseys and it won’t be a case of anyone walking straight back in when other players come back.

“It’s a work in progress, but the pleasing things were the resolve, desire and belief in the last ten minutes.”
