Donegal League: Roundup from a low-key weekend of action

There was a truncated programme of games in the Donegal Junior League, owing to both last night’s Oscar Traynor Trophy quarter-final and also the frosty weather.

Temple Domestic Appliances Division One

Drumoghill FC 3 Gweedore Celtic 0

Drumoghill FC cruised to a comfortable win over Gweedore Celtic in a game played in freezing conditions in The Moss thanks to a man of the match performance from captain Christopher O’Donnell.

The skipper grabbed a brace of headers and was a colossus in both penalty areas as his side secured another three points.

He opened the scoring on 24th minutes when he headed home a cross from Gareth Hamilton.

Gweedore Celtic netminder Daniel McLaughlin did get a hand to it, but could not prevent the ball ending up in the back of the net.

Shortly afterwards it was 2-0 and again in was Hamilton who found Richie Moore in space and the striker evaded the challenges of Gillespie and Coyle to guide the inside the far post with his right foot.

Drumoghill were the dominant side throughout but Johnny Gallagher and Ryan Greene were always a threat on the counter for Gweedore Celtic and only a smart double save from Mickey Toner prevented the visitors reducing the deficit on 70 minutes.

Shortly afterwards O’Donnell rose above the defence and netminder Michael McKelvey to brilliantly divert Moore’s corner into the top corner of the net to seal the points for the home side.

Referee: Joe McHugh.

Donegal Physiotherapy & performance Centre Division Two

Dunkineely Celtic 0 Raphoe Town 2

It was a wet and windy day in Darney Park and in the first-half chances were few and far between with Dunkineely coming the closest to breaking the deadlock when Aaron Byrne headed just wide of the target.

Raphoe were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute which was cooly slotted home by Christy Bogle.

They scored their second minutes later after a mix-up in Dunkineely defence, Glenn Mc Daid firing the ball past the Dunkineely keeper.

Best for Raphoe were Seamus Bogle with Donal Buckley while Cole Quigley and Donal Murrin were best for Dunkineely Celtic.

Whitestrand United 3 Copany Rovers 0

(No report, Copany failed to field)
