Buncrana Main Street is to reopen this evening (Mon) following the blaze overnight which destroyed a number of businesses.

A Garda investigation into the cause of the blaze which caused serious damage to Barr’s drapery store and the Plaza has been launched.

The Main Street has remained closed since 9pm last night and all of today.

However a council spokesperson said tonight “Following the fire at Upper Main Street Buncrana it is planned to re-open Main Street this evening, with the exception of a portion of the footpath adjacent the scene of the fire.

“Ferris Lane, Bothar Mhuire and the adjacent back lane shall remain closed until further notice to allow for further assessment.”
