Raphoe ABC’s explosive welterweight Leah Gallen was honoured by the IABA on Friday night.

Gallen was given an award at the IABA annual awards night in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel following her bronze medal win at the European Junior Championships.

In Russia, Gallen overcame Finja Bree to get onto the podium.

The European Championships were Gallen’s debut in an Irish vest.

Gallen’s win was one of 43 medals at World and European Elite, Youth, Junior and Schoolboy/girl competition in 2018.

Gallen also won Irish Senior Cadet and Girl 5 titles in 2018.

Gallen was on club duty with Raphoe in Birmingham at the weekend and collected her award last night at training in Raphoe.

Dublin lightweight Kellie Harrington claimed the Best Overall Boxer Award to compliment a year which saw her win World and European Elite gold and bronze, multi-nation silver and an eight Irish Elite belt.

Harrington’s performances at the World and European Championships, both of which yield AIBA ranking points, lifted her to No.1 in the AIBA World 60kg rankings. She’s also collected the Best European Female Boxer of 2018 Award in the Netherlands last month.
