The name of community activist and former businessman Terry Crossan has been thrown into the ring for Sinn Féin’s three candidate strategy for the local elections in Inishowen.

Mr Crossan, who is originally from Derry and now based in Muff, is set to be the party’s second candidate in the new Buncrana Electoral Area for the forthcoming local election.

Cllr Jack Murray has confirmed that he is also running in the area this May.

Inishowen Sinn Féin members will convene in The Point Inn, Quigley’s Point, on 17th February to select their local election candidates. Cllr Albert Doherty is, to date, the party’s sole nominee in North Inishowen, while two names will be selected to run in the south of the peninsula.

Speaking ahead of the convention, Cllr Murray said; “Nominations are now open for Sinn Féin members in Inishowen to put names forward to contest the local elections. I am extremely honoured to have received the backing of the Buncrana Cumann, while Albert Doherty has received the support of all cumainn in the new Carndonagh Electoral Area.

“Further, I am delighted to confirm that Terry Crossan’s name has been put forward by the Sinn Féin cumann in Muff. Likewise this is being endorsed by all other cumainn in the constituency.

“I have no doubt that Terry will be an excellent addition to the Sinn Féin ticket am I’m looking forward to fighting the campaign alongside him.

“Terry is a man I’ve known for almost 15 years. Through that time, he’s been a good friend and confidant – and has helped and advised me on countless occasions.

“He’s a passionate gaelgeoir, a GAA man, a community activist and a person whose lifelong commitment to Irish republicanism is unquestionable.

“Terry is extremely experienced politically. He was chairman of the Loughs Agency for a number of years and currently sits on the board of both InterTrade Ireland and Cooperation Ireland.

“Undoubtedly, it’s going to take a huge effort to elect two Sinn Féin councillors in the Buncrana/South Inishowen Electoral area but our members are hungry for this election and well up for the challenge.”

Senator Padraig Mac Lochlainn is also backing Crossan for the Sinn Féin ticket in Buncrana, saying: “I also am proud to endorse the nomination of my good friend, Terry Crossan to be the second Sinn Féin candidate in the new Buncrana Electoral Area for the forthcoming local election.

“Originally from Derry City and then based in Aught, Ture on the Foyle side of Inishowen, for many years, Terry has been an inspirational Irish Republican and community activist all of his adult life.

“I am looking forward to the campaign ahead and hopefully the election of two brilliant people in this area, Cllr Jack Murray and Terry Crossan.”
