There was much shock with news of the sudden death of Tony Wilkinson, ‘Cocadorcha’ Tyroddy, Ramelton on Monday afternoon.
A gifted musician, archaeologist and community activist, Tony’s contribution to the Ramelton area has been immense and his sudden passing is deeply mourned.
Formerly from Dublin and Sligo, Tony was deeply immersed in many voluntary projects. He joined the Ramelton Pantomine in 1995 where he played many memorable roles: he was already rehearsing the part of one of the leading principals in this season’s production.
The members of their society have many fond memories of his time and his friendship amongst them and have expressed their heartfelt sympathy to his family.
Tony was a gifted musician, bodhran, flute, fiddle, guitar and mandolin and he gave of his time freely to so many occasions and worthy causes. He was also an environmentalist deeply embedded in the welfare and well-being of his own area.
He was secretary of the Ray Action Group since its formation in recent months and had undertaken much research on behalf of the group.
Above all else, Tony was a family man and loved life, music, the arts, culture, travelling and exploring many parts of Europe as he broadened his horizons of knowledge and interest.
Tony was formerly an inspector of taxes with the revenue commissioners and later graduated with a degree in archaeology that opened up many new aspects of work that he enjoyed immensely.
The local community has expressed their deepest sympathy to his wife Lesley, daughters Leanora, Deirdra, sons, Alfie and Henry: his brother, Ben, sisters Dawn, Nora, son in law, sisters and brother in law, mother in law, nephews and nephews and his many relatives and friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
His remains reposed at the family home on Wednesday and the funeral service in St. Paul’s Parish Church, Ramelton on this Thursday afternoon is at 3.15. Cremation follows on Friday afternoon at Lakelands Crematorium in Cavan.
