Extra ward rounds at Letterkenny hospital to discharge patients early

Consultants at Letterkenny University Hospital are today carrying out extra ward rounds in a bid to discharge people early.

It comes as the hospital confirms it is extremely busy today including the Emergency Department, the Acute Medical Assessment Unit, the Day Surgery Unit and the wards.

A spokesman for Saolta, the hospital’s communication wing said “We would like to remind the public that we encourage them to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance.”

However, if you are seriously injured or ill the ED will assess and treat you as a priority, the statement adds.

“This is a challenging time for our hospital but thanks to the huge efforts of our frontline staff patients are continuing to receive safe care during this period,” a spokesman said.
