Ann-Marie McGlynn ran in the Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday morning, where she put on a master class of long distance running.
Ann-Marie’s average for the 13.1-mile race was marginally faster than 5m30s/mile or an average of 3m24s for the 21.1KM distance, giving her a tremendous time of 1.11.59 which is a personal best.
Her splits showed remarkable consistency. Her first 5K time was 17.14, followed by 16.54, 17.01 in the third 5K then 17.10, which took her to 20K in 1.08.19. The final 1.1KM was completed in 3.40. Ann-marie was a highly creditable 7th position in a star-studded field.
Kathryn McDevitt notched up a fine double in the Olympian AC Track & Field meeting in Derry on Sunday. She was the winner of the Masters’ Women’s Long Jump. She was then 2nd in the 200m. Kathryn was in the lead but was caught on the line.
The running conditions were dreadful and Kathryn’s own words were that “it was like running in a river.”
Several young Letterkenny Athletic Club runners performed well during the week in the Irish Universities Athletics Association Track and Field event. It was held at Athlone IT.
Despite injuring an ankle prior to the start, Eoin Hughes still ran well in the 3000m on his IUAA debut.
He was 4th in an excellent time of 9.38. In the 800m, Enda McBride clocked 2.12.24 and Adam Friel 2.13.68.
Letterkenny AC runners were to the fore in the Glenmore 10 Mile Race, which took place in Ballybofey and included scenic, surrounding rural areas.
On a cold, wet, windy day Eoghain McGinley made light of the conditions; he finished 3rd in a time of 55.35. Kyle Doherty of City of Derry Spartans was the race winner in a fast time of 52.26. Patrick Brennan ran  a superb time of 1.05.04. Paul McFadden crossed the line in 1.07.38.
Monica McGranaghan was again among the prizes. She was the 3rd woman and the leading F40 in an excellent time of 1.08.08. Pat Brady clocked 1.10.34, John Hughes 1.12.08, Peter Gallagher 1.12.18, Mark McFadden 1.14.17, Eimear Wiseman 1.14.36, Noel Lynch 1.14.58, Jarlath Duffy 1.15.47, Margaret Shields 1.23.15 and Maura O’Grady 1.27.15.
In Saturday morning’s Letterkenny Parkrun, Liam Ferry was the leading LAC runner in 20.35. He was 7th overall and the 2nd M40 runner.
Frances Judge was the first woman in 23.29. Cathal Roarty was the 3rd M50 runner in 23.33. Anthony Farren was the next M50 runner in a time of 24.25.
Dara Dunne’s time of 24.29  saw her finish as second woman. Peter McLean completed his 87th Parkrun in 27.51. Mark McFadden went round with his son, Eoghan, in 42.35.
Nakita Burke will be running for the Irish International team in Thursday evening’s Armagh International Road Races. She will be running in the 3K. The Irish team manager is LAC’s highly rated, hard-working coach, Teresa McDaid.
